Cookinfrance

Cookinfrance is set deep in the Dordogne countryside close to the beautiful medieval market town of Sarlat. Students come on a range of hands-on course from one to five days and stay in the lovingly restored farm buildings.

English chef, Jim Fisher, moved to France in 2000 with his wife, Lucy, and their 8 year old daughter, Jenny, with the express intention of setting up a cooking school. Having found and converted a dilapidated 17th C farm, the Fishers opened the doors to the Cookinfrance kitchens and have been going from strength to strength ever since. Cookinfrance is set deep in the Dordogne countryside close to the beautiful medieval market town of Sarlat. Students come on a range of hands-on course from one to five days and stay in the lovingly restored farm buildings.

They learn to cook both classic and local French/Mediterranean dishes using ‘cheffy’ restaurant techniques that are adapted to the home cook. A Masterchef semi-finalist, Jim has worked with Rick Stein, Alistair Little and Tony Tobin and ranks his mother, “an imaginative and prolific home cook", as his greatest early influence. He is a lively and passionate teacher who adores teaching cookery to anyone with an open foodie mind.

Comfortable cooking to camera, Jim enjoys performing in front of an audience and is pretty unflappable. Dry humoured, but with a slightly surreal edge, he teaches with a patient but ‘edgy’ teaching style. Favourite food is rustic & fine-dining, classic & modern French and British all with an emphasis on fresh, local & seasonal produce. Jim believes that local seasonal food is best and that cooking should be fun!
