John Benson-Smith & Marco Pierre White - Fish & Chips at MCFC!
Marco Pierre White will collaborate with Manchester City`s consultant chef John Benson-Smith to devise a new rustic match day menu at the Blue Moon Café, which launched at City Square for the club`s first home game. The new menu, which will include sausage rolls, pork pies, onion bhajis and pickled eggs, is aimed at fans that `enjoy real food from the farm to their fork`. Ingredients will be sourced from Lancashire and the surrounding area.
John Benson-Smith said the new menu would appeal to all age groups and taste buds. `We know our fans want no nonsense food that tastes great and doesn`t cost the earth. At the Blue Moon cafe they can expect both, as well as being highly nutritious and locally sourced,` he said.
White agreed, adding: `The food off the pitch should be as inspiring as the football on it. That doesn`t necessarily mean champagne and caviar. `It can be as cheap as chips, so long as it`s done right using real, locally sourced ingredients that taste great.`

Marguerite Patten OBE, honoured as a special Brighton & Hove citizen
Famed food writer, Marguerite Patten OBE, was recently honoured as a special Brighton & Hove citizen at a tribute luncheon hosted by City College Brighton and Hove as part of the area’s food festival.
Sixty dignitaries and guests were served a lunch prepared by catering students at the College`s Gallery Restaurant, using some of Marguerite`s classic dishes, including twice-baked cheese soufflé and crown roast of lamb.
Marguerite, who is 94 years old, worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, Farming and Food during the Second World War and became a household name for her inventive recipes using ration food, touring the country giving cookery demonstrations in factory canteens and hospitals. She was also the BBC`s first ever television cook.
During her career, she has been a prolific food writer and has published more than 170 books, and sold 17 million copies worldwide. Her pioneering approach to healthy eating has prompted campaigning chef Jamie Oliver to seek her advice on his campaign for healthier school lunches.
Talking of the modern phenomenon of the `Celebrity Chef`, Marguerite said: `I don`t approve of the word celebrity because it`s not who we are but what we do that counts. I`m a home economist, trained to help people in their own homes and I helped people to make the most of what was available during the rations of wartime Britain - for example the egg-less fruitcake and the cheese pie.
`However, `we`ll eat again` was our mantra then and I wouldn`t go back to the limited food we had then for the world - though I do think that seasonality is extremely important and fresh, local produce is so much better than eating out of season or flying food all around the world.`

At festivals people are more and more interested and educated about food and are not afraid to ask questions. Steven Walpole's Twist and Shout to a Healthier Lifestyle!!!
On Tuesday 15 November , The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch held a Healthy Living Forum to launch their exciting new theatre-in-education tour of Olivia Twist. This interactive show written and directed by Jim Bywater, tours primary schools and addresses the topical issue of healthy eating in schools.

Educating children about different foods and how eating the right things can help them to have more energy, learn more and stay looking great, then we’re giving them the tools to make their own informed choice about what they put into their bodies.”
Teacher’s were treated to the recipes Steven created for Olivia Twist, which are cooked during the performance and the children also have the opportunity to try, something which has proved to be extremely popular.
Olivia Twist which features the Queen’s professional company cut to the chase…, tours November 2005 to February 2006 and will be seen by around 7000 seven to ten year olds.
