Martin Blunos at Plymouth Flavour Fest 2006

Martin Blunos at Plymouth Flavour Fest 2006

Plymouth Flavour Fest 2006 drew record crowds at Britain’s biggest farmers’ market and was heralded a great success as record numbers flocked to Plymouth City Centre to enjoy a three-day festival of great food, drink and entertainment.

Star chef Martin Blunos, who demonstrates at major food festivals throughout the world, headlined this year’s event and said the festival was one of the best he’d been to for its mix of producers and the public’s genuine interest in good local food. “It went really well with a lot of people there and a lot of support and response from the public,” he said. “People were really interested in the food itself and embraced the festival for the right reasons. It was one of the best food festivals I’ve been to as it was not just big companies but lots of smaller producers with stands and felt much more intimate and integrated. At festivals people are more and more interested and educated about food and are not afraid to ask questions. Plymouth Flavour Fest was a good example of this and there was a really good cross-section of people from different backgrounds. We all need food and if you care that much you should know where the food has come from and how best to prepare it.”

Steven Walpole's Twist and Shout to a Healthier Lifestyle!!!

On Tuesday 15 November , The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch held a Healthy Living Forum to launch their exciting new theatre-in-education tour of Olivia Twist. This interactive show written and directed by Jim Bywater, tours primary schools and addresses the topical issue of healthy eating in schools.

Celebrity chef Steven Walpole , delivered the keynote speech to an attentive gathering of Healthy Schools’ Coordinators, Teachers, and school Governors. Talking about the project Steven said “it will always be difficult to get children to eat the foods they should. If we can get them eating a good diet 75% of the time then we’re on to a good thing! Educating children about different foods and how eating the right things can help them to have more energy, learn more and stay looking great, then we’re giving them the tools to make their own informed choice about what they put into their bodies.”

Teacher’s were treated to the recipes Steven created for Olivia Twist, which are cooked during the performance and the children also have the opportunity to try, something which has proved to be extremely popular.

Olivia Twist which features the Queen’s professional company cut to the chase…, tours November 2005 to February 2006 and will be seen by around 7000 seven to ten year olds. The production explores the important issues of healthy eating; the perceptions children have about food and what it means to be part of a healthy school.

Sensational Tara PT leaves Dr Lineker Speechless in New Crisp ad. Tara Palmer Tomkinson teaches Gary Lineker his biggest lesson yet as he tries to steal crisps from her in the latest ‘Posh’ TV ad for Walkers Sensations.

Additionally, to build on the success of the Sensations crisp flavour range, Walkers employed the skills of John Benson-Smith, a former judge of BBC MasterChef as well as the 1999 Northern Chef of the Year, to develop new Chargrilled Steak & Peppercorn Sauce crisp flavour.

Krys Jankowski brand manager for Sensations at Walkers said, “The ad is quite risqué for Walkers but it’s certainly going to be remembered and talked about lots! We were all singing the very catchy poppadom song by the end of the ad shoot, and the product is fantastic.”
